before dawn three [poetry]

[before dawn one]

[before dawn two]

salty hotel room air, scent of

tears and tiredness

tender bodies against slippery sheets

but she cradles his warmth

over, around, within

his heartbeat overwhelms the noise of a dying city

of loneliness

and she is home in his arms

even if home is far away

  1. With each breath
the salinity burned deeper in their blood
a tender memory of a primal ocean now awakening,
at the seams of their merging flesh
    now rushing, frothing,
    a poem in endless waves
washing the white heart of dawn,
into their skin etching the indelible runes
their lips with every breath would utter,
