when night comes [poetry]

I don’t understand

the beauty of lying here

backs against earth

cheeks against sky

sweet aroma of your breath

in tangled hair

in twisted grass

warm hands intertwined

over rumpled clothes

burdens discarded

abandoned buttons

we have vanilla skin and lavender hearts

frosted with laughing stars

I don’t understand the beauty here

but I drink it cold

antique wine

it’s ours

and ours alone
