a strange thought [poetry]

it’s hard to imagine

watching sunrise without you

contemplating a frosty dawn

wrapped in blankets that don’t smell of you

drinking coffee from a mug

without your fingerprints

you, the one who held a map

between sunlight and our windowpane

where we drew pink hearts in marker-pen

highways entwined like carefree daydreams

you, bubblegum in the back of my memory

too sweet, and then gone in a burst

a flash of joy irretrievable

  1. I love the imagery in this. A map held up against the window, illuminated in the sun! Makes me think of those beautiful romantic pictures that people put on Instagram, with inspirational “dreamer” quotes on them. 😊 The bubblegum part was also interesting and original 🙂
