basking in moonlight [poetry]

what had it been

what had been the force spinning through night

the invisible thread between them

the vortex joining them

hands first, hips next

what had been the flavorless wine in the wind

the heat under their tongues

the unspoken song sung by undulating hearts

moonlight

lost forever dancing in hazel eyes

yearning

for her form spinning in darkness

dexterous

confident warmth around shoulders

necks and faces open to sweeping sky

laughs quickening and quivering

in the depths of throats

the scent of him

rich and deep

all over her

enveloping her soul

entrancing her mind

spices and earth itself

rising again and again

in offering of a primal wellspring

she could drink from
